Usability Consulting

Usability is the practice of ensuring a site works for users. The combination of user testing and our usability experience can considerably improve the usability of your site, leading to increased conversion and customer satisfaction.

Why is usability important?

Whenever someone creates a web site or online application, they bring their experiences and preconceived notions of how sites should work with them. Unfortunately, in many cases those notions of how a site should work are different than the way their users actually interact with a site.

More often than not, sites are designed based on how the organization or designer thinks about the offering. This leads to designing sites based on organizational hierarchies, devoting considerable real estate to unnecessary features while altogether neglecting others, and not catching bottlenecks in the conversion process that can trip up potential customers. The end result is lost business and frustrated customers.

Our usability expertise + user testing = profit

Intentionally’s usability consulting process has two parts to it. The first is our extensive usability expertise gleaned from hundreds of design projects. The majority of our projects have had concrete business objectives attached to them - increasing registered users for a web application, increasing the number of students applying to a school, etc. Over the years we’ve developed a series of best practices that have proven effective in increasing the general usability of a site.

But we also know that your audience and your industry has nuances that we haven’t seen before. Which is why we always employ user testing in our usability consulting process. By watching real users actually go through your site we routinely discover bottlenecks and pitfalls that are often surprising to our clients (and even ourselves.) In our experience, watching users firsthand as they interact and struggle with a site can lead to insights impossible to discover any other way.
